Ford Motor Company has announced a safety recall covering nearly 388,000 vehicles over a dangerous fault involving second-row seats. The campaign targets select 2020–2027 Aviator and 2020–2026 Explorer models. Documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warn the seats may unlatch, tip or slide unexpectedly while driving. Any sudden movement means seats cannot hold passengers securely in collisions, raising the likelihood of injuries. Ford’s internal records show 14 reports of unwanted seat motion logged as of June 16, and authorities note all recalled units potentially carry the defect.

The root problem lies with a component known as a bezel. Ford will carry out free repairs at authorized dealerships for all affected vehicle owners. Technicians will conduct inspections and replace faulty bezels to fix the seat locking mechanism. No payment will be required from car owners for parts or labour associated with the remedy. The automaker plans to notify registered vehicle owners by mail, with official warning letters scheduled to be sent out on July 27, 2026.
