ABC - 佛罗里达学前班外SUV内发现幼儿身亡

A 23-month-old boy was found dead inside an SUV outside a preschool in Plantation, Florida, on Monday afternoon. Local police say they are looking into how the toddler died.

Plantation police and fire crews went to A World of Discovery Academy around 5:39 p.m. Monday after a report that a child was dead inside a vehicle, according to a police post on X on Tuesday.

警方周二在社交平台X上发帖称，普兰泰申警察局和消防局于周一下午约5时39分接到报警，称一辆车内有儿童死亡，随后出警前往"A World of Discovery Academy"幼儿园。

Fire officials declared the child dead at the scene. Detectives then opened a death investigation. Police said they had no more details at that point.

Leslie Novoa, who owns the academy, told ABC Miami affiliate WSVN-TV that she called 911 after she and the boy's father found the toddler in the back seat of his SUV.

"The dad came to pick up his child," Novoa said. "When he got to the parking lot, he realized he had forgotten the child. He never dropped the child off at school."

The family had sent children to the preschool for years, Novoa said. This toddler was their third child at the school.

"They're a very loving family," she said. "Unfortunately, this happened."

Investigators worked at the scene for several hours, WSVN-TV reported. A tent was set up around the SUV.

Novoa asked parents to always check the back seat before leaving their cars.

"Make sure you drop off the children at school," she said. "Double-check the back seat. It's just to make sure you did the right thing."

By Tuesday afternoon, Plantation police had not said whether anyone would be charged. ABC News has asked the department for more information.
